Hello, I'm Dolores (Dolo) Okecki, a Buenos Aires-based freelance illustrator and comic artist. I work worldwide, English/Spanish. Represented by Astound in most countries (see email section below)
A bit about my life as an illustrator:
Like most artists I grew up in my own world, drawing every chance I got. I watched anything animated (a lot of Disney, but Future Boy Conan left an impression on me, the way early Miya did action, <3). I also read the Asterix and Tintin comics we had at home, local Patoruzu, Mafalda and any comic or illustrated book I could find.
When I started art school, my world expanded, but those early influences always stayed with me.
After graduating, I worked for four years in a couple of local studios, animating and storyboarding. I later dared to resign and landed my first comic series with Netherlands's Penny magazine. With that, I took a leap into freelance illustration and never looked back.
About my work:
I specialize in comics, textbooks and book illustrations and always open to picture books! I also scripted a YA graphic novel: “Luka’s Journey”. Kids, animals, monsters, nature, fantasy, post apocalyptic worlds, hidden worlds and adventure in general are my favorite subjects. People trying to connect with others or trying to understand the world around them are also important themes I like to work on.
Clients: Simon & Schuster, Capstone Publishing, Pearson, Oxford UP, Benchmark Education, Sunshine (NZ), Eudeba (Arg), Editorial Hidra (Sp), Penny(NL)
